Detroit, MI – Chris Kelly will join the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation ( on October 16 in the newly-created position of Vice President of Development. He will be responsible for directing the Foundation’s fundraising efforts and enhancing the organization’s charitable relationships with individuals, corporations and foundations.

He brings a wealth of knowledge and particular expertise in philanthropic gift planning, which is of great value to our fundraising efforts,” said Lawrence J. Burns, Foundation President and CEO. “As the Foundation continues to establish itself as a leading advocacy organization for children, Chris’s leadership in the Foundation’s development efforts are key. I look forward to working with Chris as we continue to expand our strategies to better meet the health and wellness needs of the children of Michigan.”

A former professional opera singer, Kelly brings more than 28 years of experience in trust, estate and philanthropic planning to the Foundation.  He most recently served as Vice President and Planned Giving Product Specialist with PNC Institutional Asset Management, and as Vice President and Senior Philanthropic Advisor for Comerica Charitable Services Group, Chair of the Grant Committee and President of the Comerica Charitable Trust and Comerica Legacy Foundation, with a combined value of more than $120 million.  Kelly had a similar role with Merrill Lynch Trust Company Center for Philanthropy as Senior Philanthropic Consultant and Manager of the Merrill Lynch Community Foundation Alliance, a program he grew to over 225 community foundations across the United States and approximately $1.3 billion+ of assets.

Kelly is a frequent guest speaker for various planned giving councils, educational programs and donor seminars across the country. He is a member of the Planned Giving Roundtable of Southeast Michigan, serving on the Council Board, in addition to several other capacities including Past President, Leave A Legacy Chair and National Delegate to the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning (PPP). He is a former PPP National Board Member and served as the Chair of the 2013 National Conference in Minneapolis. He has been involved with the Council on Foundation, the Council of Michigan Foundation, as well as numerous planned giving committees and boards for a variety of charities.
